Fish Health Director- Mowi East Canada

This is an exciting time in the growth of Mowi East Canada Operations.  

To continue to be at the forefront of the market, Mowi Canada East is seeking a Fish Health Director to be a part of the senior leadership team.  This person will operate as a high-level executive, preferably with an animal health background, and possess the acumen to navigate external relationships with regulatory bodies, interact at the political level, and oversee the day-to-day fish health strategy of the East Coast Operations.

This position will report to the Managing Director and oversee a team.  This senior position is a vital part of the operations and is responsible for ensuring the salmon's best health and welfare sustainably and efficiently.  In this role, you will provide a high degree of oversight and experience in maintaining the company’s high standards of fish health management.

Responsibilities:

• Developing and overseeing the fish health strategy
• Leading a team of fish health professionals
• Designing and implementing active and passive surveillance programs and responding to emergency needs
• Conducting biosecurity audits and offering evidence-based decision-making
• Ensuring regulatory compliance
• Coordinating with federal and provincial agencies to prepare response plans for disease outbreaks and other adverse events
• Working with regulatory bodies to influence the next stage of aquaculture development
• Ability to mentor and supervise others
• Collaboration with other Mowi regions
• Commitment to promoting a safe and positive work environment

Requirements:

• Excellent English verbal and written skills
• A Canadian veterinary license or equivalent license/degree earned in another country
• Ability to work outdoors and to travel to sites by boat
• Travel throughout Atlantic Canada
• International travel when needed
• Valid Driver's license

Preferred:

• Aquaculture experience
